24 July 2014 – Sofala to Cowra NSW

We were in no hurry to relocate to Cowra as the morning temperature was around the zero mark. It was overcast and rain was expected. We could actually see dark clouds in the direction of Bathurst but it remained dry in Sofala until we departed. Our batteries were lower than expected and it looks like we do have a serious power issue that will need to be addressed before we consider free camping in the future.

One of our new friends was unable to start their rented motorhome and one of our friends was able to assist with a portable battery pack.

We were all able to start our vehicles and close to 10:00am, we departed the campsite for the two hour drive to Cowra.

There was evidence of recent rain in Bathurst but the entire trip remained dry for us.

We checked into the Cowra Holiday Park and were made welcome by the owners. We were given a personalised welcome pack and were informed that a free sausage sizzle and trivia night had been arranged for us on the coming Saturday night. We were also informed that a fire would be started for us each afternoon in a large shed that doubled as the camp kitchen.

With power connected to the caravan, we were able start our small electric heater and finally warm the caravan to an appropriate level of heat. We hate the summer heat but this year we are looking forward to summer. Next year we will have to try to be north somewhere for either part or all of the winter.

After a very quick happy hour we all headed into Cowra and the local Services Club for our evening meal. It was a treat to have someone cook for us and both the cold beer and the evening meals were very enjoyable.

“He” thought that he had lost his mobile phone but it was late found safe in the caravan.

Eventually we returned to the warm caravan where we caught up with recent news events via the television before retiring for the night.
