Wednesday 4 March 09 – Parkes to Lake Cargelligo

We were up at 6.00am when “She” started the day with a motor home shower. We were ready to leave by 8.00am and waited until the daily UHF radio call at 8.30am.
At 9.50am, Blue Snoopy was the fourth vehicle to leave heading to the official starting point at the local visitor’s centre. After photographs were taken for a local paper, the Mayor waved us off on the start of the safari.
With “She” responsible for navigation, we successfully made it to our morning tea stop and then onto Condobolin for a lunch stop. We purchased some refreshments and lunch locally before heading towards Lake Cargelligo.

The winds during the drive today were very strong and reflected in the worst fuel consumption since we have owned a motor home. We drove through several dust storms and saw some spectacular twisters caused by the extreme winds.

We arrived at our overnight stop just after 2.00pm and we setup inside the local oval. On the way into town, we made our first visit to a dump point (not that hard) and we are now set to fully experience the free camping thing.

As this is typed, we are reliant on battery power and due to the recently fitted solar panels, we are currently power positive. It will take a couple of days until we learn how to manage the power but the signs are good.

Happy hour was shared by all at 4.00pm and the locals provided our evening meal in the local sailing club. Whilst we sat and shared happy hour, the distant rolling dust storms turned the afternoon sky into a brown and black haze. One of the local farmers spoke to the safarites during happy hour about the district and he did make mention of the soil from his farm sailing by on the other side of the lake.

We returned to the motor home just after 9.00pm and after a shower, we went to bed. The motor home is cool so we should have a good nights sleep.

Departure to our next destination is to commence from 11.00am tomorrow. We will find our departure order during a UHF radio call at 8.30am tomorrow.
