18 September 2010 – Yarrie Lake to Moree NSW

We awoke to a picture perfect day and were afforded the opportunity to photograph some reflections in Yarrie Lake. We shared a continental breakfast with the group and were ready to depart by 9:30am.

Our instructions indicated that we should travel back to the Newell Highway via the unpaved road that we arrive on but we chose the tar road that went to West Narrabri. We stopped and purchased some more perishables at Coles.

As we were leaving Narrabri we heard chatter on the CB regards a 6.5 metre load heading in our direction. Once again the value of a CB on channel 40 was confirmed.

Just before we reached a sweeping turn on a bridge, we saw the load coming towards us and pulled to the side of the road. Apparently the driver of the truck was concerned with the space and we heard further chatter from the escort Police referring to the “camper van” stopped near the bridge. We decided not to tell them the difference between a camper and a motor home and drove past the stopped wide load.

During the trip to Moree, we saw one other wide load but were able to pull left and leave plenty of room. Upon arriving at Moree we refuelled and then headed to the caravan park.

There was a queue at the office and “He” had to wait about 15 minutes before being allocated a site. We were asked to look at a site for suitability and were told that it was on a bend and they had put a 25 foot van there before. We looked at the site and it was apparent we could not open the sideout and we would be stepping from the motor home directly onto the road. We were given another site that was located adjacent to a driveway to a section of the park but we could not get in under the trees. Finally we were given a nice grassed site but we were well away from our group.

Moree is famous for thermal pools and unfortunately this caravan park is designed to pack in as many as possible. “She” spent time in the 39 degree pool and enjoyed it. You have to be very careful as people have died in the pools when they “cook” their body.

It is unlikely we will stay here again. On a positive note, we have 22 digital television channels and a strong internet connection.

After happy hour we returned to the motor home and cooked steak and sausages for tea. We had ice cream for sweets and settled to watch the AFL Final. “His” father would have been happy if still alive as St Kilda won.

We were in bed just after 9:45pm.
