To “Tow” or “Not To Tow”

We have for sometime entertained thoughts about the possibility of towing a vehicle behind the motor home.  These thoughts were dismissed after roughly analysing our requirements and making the decision that if we really needed another vehicle to go places that we could not take the motor home, we could simply hire one.

In 2008 we visited Alice Springs and took a four wheel drive tour bus for a visit to Palm Valley.  This was actually cheaper than hiring a vehicle as we know that most of the hire companies don’t offer unlimited kilometres in areas away from the main cities.

During the same trip we started to head towards the Henbury Meteorite Craters but turned around after about 200 metres when it became clear that we should have a four wheel drive.  “The Breakaways” near Coober Pedy are really suited for four wheel drive but we did take the motor home there.

Last year we did spend a day looking at solutions to tow but knowing that it would not be happening soon.

In the latter part of this year we had a problem with our motor vehicle and decided it was time to consider a replacement vehicle.  The decision to replace our vehicle has presented us with the opportunity to consider a vehicle to both compliment the motor home as well as catering for our normal transport requirements in the biggest city in Australia.  We also need a vehicle that will last us for a minimum of 10 years.  We also need to be able to transport our Grandson safely as well.

We will document our research for the purchase of a replacement vehicle and then the process of deciding how the vehicle will be towed and what is required in that area.
