After sharing in a continental breakfast, we were back on the road for our trip up the Murray River to Echuca.
We have visited Echuca several times in the past and have always stayed at Moama in NSW (directly across the Murray River from Echuca). The trip today was on the Murray Valley Highway which follows the Murray River from near Corryong Victoria (where it joins the Alpine Way) to Robinvale in North Western Victoria where it joins the Sturt Highway (in NSW).
We refuelled at Wodonga and then headed to Rutherglen where we stopped for morning tea before visiting a couple of wineries where we purchased some muscat. We love the muscat from this area and welcomed the opportunity of sampling some of the produce before buying. The wineries we visited and purchased from were Stanton & Killeen and Bullers Winery.
We stopped in the small town of Strathmerton in an excellent roadside park with what must be the cleanest toilets we have seen in Victoria (or possibly Australia).
We stopped at Coles when we arrived at Echuca and purchased food to cover the remainder of our trip and then headed to the Echuca Caravan Park (part of Top Tourist Parks) where we established our campsite. This park is massive and very well presented and we will stay there again in the future.
We decided to walk back to the Echuca shopping centre and purchased a small car for our Grandson and a game (Rummy) for us to play and two new director’s chairs. We received a substantial discount on the chairs which were on sale and more importantly, are the exact chairs we have been looking for.
Happy hour took place on a adjacent “vacant” camp site.
We cooked (or partially burnt) schnitzel for our evening meal.
Our safari hosts setup a projector in the camp kitchen and several of our group took the opportunity to watch the “Man From Snowy River” movie. We had other things to do and elected to watch our copy of the same movie in the motorhome.
