13 July 2011 – Longreach to Winton QLD

Today started as another perfect day weather wise.  The temperature has risen and there was no need for jackets when we went to breakfast.  We said goodbye to J & A as we passed their campsite (they were packing and about to head to Mackay).

After breakfast we hitched the car (that process is easier each day) and then headed north west towards our next stop at Winton.

Today we  had the pleasure of getting a rock into our windscreen which caused a small fracture.  Fortunately the fracture is low and in the middle and should be easy to repair later in the trip.  We endeavored to have it repaired at Winton but the only thing we were able to do was to obtain some temporary patches courtesy of the RACQ.  There was also another motorhome suffering stone damage so we provided them with patches as well.

The caravan park was not expecting us but managed to fit us all in.

We used the car to travel back into Winton where we had lunch in a local bakery before heading to the Waltzing Matilda Centre where we intended to visit.  For the second time we have walked in and walked out balking at the cost of $21 entry.  We did however purchase a book and a DVD.

We had happy hour adjacent to our motorhome before eating chicken for tea.

After dinner we were entertained by bush poetry.

The caravan park web site states;

Melanie Hall and Susie Carcary are the headline act over the winter season. These 2 pocket rockets will give you a great night of comedy and song. The girls will take you on a journey that will make you laugh and cry. Their passion for our wonderful lingo and our unique Aussie heritage will have you in stitches and bring back some memories. They perform a different show in the shed nightly at 7pm.

That description does not do the girls justice.  There act is excellent and we purchased a DVD that we will enjoy once we return home.
