Our alarm went off early but we took our time in getting ready to depart.
It was only a short trip to Charters Towers where we stopped to purchase groceries and some liquid refreshment. We also had an early lunch at a café before refueling and then heading south again on the Gregory Development Road.
As we left Charters Towers, we called our friends on the UHF but they failed to respond. We stopped and waited for them only to learn that they had not heard our calls. We discovered that a wire on our UHF microphone had broken and there was no way of repairing it. After a quick trip back to Charters Towers, we managed to purchase a replacement microphone and after a delay of 30 minutes, we were heading south again.
This part of the Gregory Development Road was in good repair and not as narrow as the previous day. We had made arrangement to meet our companions at a roadhouse called Belyando Crossing and we arrived at 3:00pm. As a result of our return to Charters Tower for a UHF microphone, we arrived about 45 minutes after them.
We managed to get powered sites in a small caravan park and settled into happy hour before cooking tea.
The guys spent Friday night watching the NRL match Brisbane versus Cronulla via satellite television whilst the girls watched a movie. “He” stayed up and watched the Wests Tigers beat Manly.
For the second day in a row, we had no Telstra coverage for either mobile telephone or internet.
