21 July 2013 – Alice Springs NT

We timed our visit to Alice Springs to allow us to visit the Sunday markets in Todd Mall.

We arrived in the centre of Alice Springs as the markets were getting underway and managed to park less than 100 metres from the Mall.  We were surprised as to how few people were around but the number increased as the morning went on.  We purchased a couple of items including some art that we will have framed when we return home to Sydney.

After leaving Todd Mall, we did some window shopping and “He” was able to purchase a case for his GoPro, something that could not be found in Sydney.

We also made another trip back into the West MacDonnell Ranges with a specific intention of taking more photographs of this magnificent landscape.  Something that is not lacking at this time is green with the country very lush.  The contrast between the red mountains, red soil, green undergrowth and trees and the white gum trees almost leaves you speechless.  We do live in a magnificent country.   As soon as we return home and get some internet bandwidth, there will be a big posting of our photographs.

We also tried to find the “Ghostly Gums” that were made iconic by Albert Namatjira.  We failed.  We had heard that they had been partially destroyed by fire.

As tonight was to be the last night with our friends, we had intended to go out for dinner.  We made a decision to stay at home and we all enjoyed meatballs and pasta.  Later we were spoilt with strawberries and cream from a mobile vendor who is working in the caravan park.  The strawberries are to die for.  Tonight we also saw a very near full moon.
