26 July 2013 – Coober Pedy to Woomera SA

“Eureka”, why, see below?

We set the alarm for 6:00am and we got up a couple of minutes later.

All went very well with our preparation for departure and we left the caravan park just before 8:00am.  Our trip distance today was 376k’s and we expected to complete the journey in about 4 hours.

When we left Coober Pedy conditions were almost still.  As the trip progressed, we started to experience a tail wind for the first time since leaving home.  We were actually able to increase of speed to 95kph and maintain fuel consumption below 15 litres per 100k’s.  Closer to Woomera the wind direction changed but that had little effect on consumption.  We actually drove the 376k’s without a stop and that was very manageable under the conditions.  “He” had more passing practice having to overtake two motorhomes and a caravan during the trip.  We are happy with the performance of the four cylinder Navara pulling our 2.7 tonne as the last passing manoeuvre was done whilst ascending a slight hill and we had power to burn.

We arrived at Woomera at midday and were setup and having lunch by 12:45pm.

“She” managed to get three loads of washing done during the afternoon and everything was dry by the time we had dinner at 6:00pm.

“He” was given a leave pass during the afternoon to pay a visit to the Woomera Heritage and Visitor Centre.  This is a separate museum to the museum we visited a couple of weeks ago and well worth the admission price of $4.50 for seniors.

We had satellite television and were able to watch the Sydney news and then the AFL game.
