1 August 2013 – Broken Hill NSW

We have been to Broken Hill on four previous occasions and there is really very little left for us to see. We had thought about taking a day trip to Menindee Lakes, however, people that we had spoken with earlier during our trip swayed our feeling about a visit at this time.

So, with not a lot to do, we slept in. Actually, we were up well before 8:00am having decided that we would visit the Sulphide Street Station Railway & Historical Museum which included the Migrant & Hospital Museums.

This museum is simply sensational. We spent a couple of hours looking at all of the displays and took particular interest in “The Comet” (first diesel passenger train in Australia) and several of the other steam engines on display. The volume of history on display is massive.

We had lunch back at the caravan before heading to Silverton when we stopped for refreshments in the hotel before proceeding on to the Mundi Mundi lookout where we waited to photograph the sunset. Sunset was amazing with not a single cloud in the sky. Some of the photographs will be in our gallery.

We took extreme care driving back to Broken Hill to ensure we avoided any wildlife (or cows for that matter) on the road.
