17 May 2015 – White Cliffs to Broken Hill NSW

Once again our day started early when “He” was forced out of a warm bed to answer the call of nature.  The early rise also allowed us to take photographs of another magnificent outback sunrise.

We were ready to depart just before 9:00am and we left before the rest of the convoy to setup the quad copter so we could capture the convoy passing.  This was done and then it took us 46klms to catch the convoy.  Fortunately we were able to hear the UHF chatter from the convoy and we were aware of kangaroos and cattle in close proximity of the road.

Most of the group refuelled in Wilcannia before heading to our morning tea stop at a roadside rest area about 60k’s west of Wilcannia.  “He” flew the quad again and captured some amazing pictures of the area around the rest stop.

We arrived on the outskirts of Broken Hill just after 1:30pm and headed directly to our overnight stop at the Broken Hill Racecourse where it took time before we were all settled on our campsites.

We only had 10-amp power available but that is not a problem as we have an approved converter to use.  We are sharing our water with another van and that should not be a problem unless we all decide to shower at the same time.  Grey water is going straight to the ground, as there is no watering here due to an extreme water shortage.

After setting up, we decide to take our friends on a sightseeing tour of Broken Hill.    Whilst we were out, we also took the opportunity to do a quick shop at a Coles Supermarket.

We played boules later in the afternoon before sharing happy hour with the group.

We enjoyed a lazy meal of roasted chicken for tea before retiring for the night.
