We departed Hay just after 8:30am in fog. The fog was so thick that we were unable to see the surrounding countryside. We were however able to see the sun which was just a bright light in the sky filtered through the fog.
We stopped for morning tea at a roadhouse in the Goolgowi only to find that the roadhouse did not sell coffee. We were lucky that we had a thermos so we were able to enjoy a coffee.
We had intended to stop at Rankin Springs but decided to continue through to our overnight stop at Lake Cargelligo.
There was a little bit of chaos with our ten vehicles trying to find space in the caravan park but after a little patience, we were all sited. “She” managed to use our washing machine before several of the group headed to a church that was built in the middle of nowhere.
We drove for about 30k’s on a main road before a 9k drive on a dirt road. The church is actually a Farm Chapel and is called “Christ the King” and was built in 2008. The internal roof of the chapel was painted over a two-year period and needs to be seen to appreciate the work involved. The acoustics in the chapel are marvelous and what you would expect to hear in an opera house. The caretaker Father made us very welcome and also provided us with afternoon tea. The entire experience was extremely surreal.
It was raining by the time we returned to our campsite.
We cooked our evening meal in the camp kitchen and then celebrated a birthday with one of the group. We slept well.
