2016 Central Australia, Darwin & Western Australia – Overview

We are in countdown mode.

Shortly we and four other couples are heading off on what for us will be our longest trip ever.

Leaving in mid May, we will travel across NSW to Broken Hill, then into South Australia and the Flinders Ranges before returning back to Port Augusta.  After stocking our supplies,  we will head straight north with side trips to Olympic Dam, then Yulara (Uluru) before spending a little time in Alice Springs.  From there we will head further north to Kakadu National Park (we think Kaka-do and not Kaka-don’t) then Darwin, then Litchfield National Park before returning to Katherine where we will start the Western Australian leg of our trip.  We will travel down the Western Australian coast to Perth and then to Albany & Esperance before heading to Kalgoorlie and finally across the Nullarbor to Port Augusta and then home via the Hay Plains.  All told, about 17500k’s.

It might seem that we don’t have a lot of time but we believe we can adequately manage the travel and sightseeing to make the trip both memorable and worthwhile.

Where possible, we will free camp but we know that there are places we will have to pay for a caravan park.  We also know that we are travelling into areas where we will have to pay “top dollars” for our stays.  But that will be a cheap price to pay for our adventure.
