We slept well and were awake about 30 minutes before the alarm was set to sound. As a result of waking early, we were able to experience a wonderful sunrise.
We refuelled at the BP Depot in Wilcannia which was $0.11c per litre cheaper than the service station on the Barrier Highway.
Other than having to dodge roadkill, the run from Wilcannia into Broken Hill was uneventful. Fuel consumption was not great with the Navara’s computer indicating 16.7 litres per 100k’s (actual will be over 17 litres per 100k’s). This was surprising as there was no wind and we maintained a speed of around 88kph.
We had made arrangements to stay at the Broken Hill Racecourse and after meeting with the caretaker, we were fully setup by 1:00pm.
The afternoon was spent with a visit to the local caravan dealer followed by grocery shopping.
We had intended to watch sunset at Silverton however the late arrival of cloud cover ruined that plan. We had also intended to have our evening meal in the Musicians Club so rather than a late meal, we had an early one.
We had a look at the Broken Hill lights from the “Line of Lode” before returning to our camp site.
