12 June 2016 – Yulara NT

We awoke to a cool sunny day but cloud moved in just after sunrise.  Fortunately the cloud cleared quickly but was replaced with an extremely strong wind.  We were grateful that we were not towing the caravan today.

We were in no hurry and took our time to prepare for our exploration of the area surrounding Yulara.  Our destination today was Kata Juta (The Olgas) some 53k’s from our campsite.

After obtaining our entry passes ($25pp) into the National Park, we paid a quick visit to the sunset viewing area (for Uluru) and took the mandatory photographs.

We then headed to the Kata Juta lookout where again we stopped for pictures.  We noticed a sign on the walk to the lookout which said “Quad Free Zone”.  “He” now thinks he needs a larger drone so he does not fly a “QUAD”.

We stopped at Kata Juta for lunch before driving to one of the two walks, “The Valley of the Winds”.  Unfortunately there was no parking available so we headed to the second walk, “Wolpa Gorge”.  At a leisurely pace, we completed the walk.  As time was moving on, we decided not to go back to the other walk which would have taken several hours to complete.

We headed back to camp as we were too early to go the the sunset viewing site.  Armed with food and drink, we returned to the sunset viewing area at 4:30pm.  Even then the viewing area was well populated with people.

We waited for sunset talking pictures as Uluru changed colour.

After returning to our camp, we ran across a friend who is completing in the Endeavour Foundation rally.  He was extremely surprised to see us and also two of our friends who he knows very well.

We completed our day with dinner at the Gecko Café where the food was excellent.
