Eager to start the next chapter of our journey, we were ready to depart our site by 8:30am. We had to wait for one of the other vehicles to leave before safely extracting our caravan from our very tight site.
One of our group needed to refuel so indicated we would travel as slow as possible to allow them to catch up. For various reasons they never caught us (289k drive) but our reduced speed allowed us to conserve fuel with today being one of the best days for fuel consumption since leaving home.
The first part of the drive was actually very boring with the road lined of only by trees. We saw significant numbers of cattle that all appeared to be suffering from lack of feed. Maybe that was not the case and was the type of cattle.
Well into our journey we entered into the Gregory National Park and that is when the scenery started to change. The land became undulating and the earth and surrounding hills changes to a beautiful deep red colour. We have assumed that we were looking at iron ore.
We stopped for a break at the Victoria River Roadhouse and waited for our friends to arrive. After waiting for 45 minutes, we started to become concerned as to their welfare but when another traveller was able to confirm that he had seen a vehicle and trailer matching their description parked in a rest stop earlier in the day, we decided to move on.
The scenery continued for the next 80k’s and until we reached our overnight destination, Timber Creek. Within minutes of arriving, our friends caught us.
Whilst we have telephone and internet coverage, we don’t have television.
The site we chose by default had quite a slope and we were not able to level the van. Fortunately the slope was from the front to rear and did not impact sleeping.
We enjoyed happy hour under the shade of trees and had a quite evening following our evening meal. We had an early night.
