25 July 2016 – Karratha WA

Up at 7:00am and out for sightseeing just after 9:00am with friends.

We returned to Roebourne and then head to the derelict town of Cossack.  Cossack was where the pearl industry started on the west coast before it moved to Broome.  The town is in the process of reconstruction and will be a great tourist attraction in years to come.

After Cossack we headed to Point Samson, a lovely coastal town where we enjoyed fish and chips for lunch.  After visiting all spots in the area to take pictures we headed back towards Wickham.  Just before Wickham we stopped at a point where tidal water was entering a lake through a narrow channel.  It was here that we saw how quickly the tide comes in as the water was rushing through the gap.  This was a lot like the Horizontal Waterfalls.

At Wickham we stopped to photograph a massive truck, an old railway locomotive, a sculpture of a ship and an anchor.  On display was the process of transportstion of the ore from the mine to the ship.

We had a quick stop in Roebourne before returning to Karratha for grocery shopping, fuel and then happy hour.

We watched television until late in the evening.
