15 August 2016 – Caiguna +105k’s Free Camp WA to Border Village SA

Last night was warm.  There was no moisture in the air nor was there a cloud in the sky when we opened the door of the caravan.  But there was wind and the wind was stronger than yesterday.  And the direction had not changed, we would be heading into a sidewind that would become a slight headwind during the drive today.

We departed at 8:45am and headed to the roadhouse at Madura where we purchased fuel.  Just prior to the roadhouse we descended through the Madura Pass where a pass where we afforded a wonder view of the flat plain to the south east.

We continued along the plain for just over 190klms when the road climbed up through the Eucla Pass to the Western Australian and South Australian border and our overnight stop at the Border Village Roadhouse.  By the time we arrived at Border Village, the wind had increased in intensity and this impacted on our fuel consumption with us using around the 20 litres per 100k’s for the trip today.

It cost us $25 to stay in the caravan park and whilst we have power, we have to use our own water.  Actually it is unlikely we will have access to water until Wednesday when we expect to be close to Streaky Bay.

We had a quiet afternoon and then happy hour.  We have set our clocks forward by 1.5 hours so we are operating on South Australian time.

We spoke with our son today and were informed that our family doctor has decided to retire.  We are both shattered.

With our satellite dish setup, we watched television in the evening.
