Last night was warm. To make matters worse, there were high winds which made it difficult to open any of our roof vents. As a result, the temperature combined with the noise from the wind ensured we were deprived of quality sleep.
We were up before the alarm sounded anticipating an early departure to stay in front of the weather. When we awoke we head on the television that a severe weather warning had been issued for parts of South Australia. The warning area included our current location, the route we would be taking today and our proposed destination. The warning was for damaging winds, rain and possible thunderstorms including light hail.
By 8:00am we were ready to leave as were our friends. The trip today was relatively short with only 168klms to travel. For the entire journey we travelled close to very dark clouds and from time to time we encountered light rain however we never had to use our windscreen wipers during the trip. We also witnessed a double rainbow.
With a tailwind behind us, we had a very economical trip south. In fact, the consumption today was the lowest on our trip so far.
We detoured into Coffin Bay to have a quick look before continuing on to Port Lincoln arriving there just after 11:00am. We booked into the Port Lincoln Tourist Park, a wonderful caravan park that we have stayed in before. We also decided to spend an extra $5 per night to camp on solid level concrete drive through sites. Whilst rain was threatening, we were able to complete our setup in the dry.
After finishing our setup, we gathered our friends and headed to a fish retailer and enjoyed fish and chips for lunch. We then did a sightseeing tour of the area before stopping for some shopping and a coffee break.
Returning to our caravan just after 3:00pm, “He” had a quick sleep before happy hour.
We were back in the caravan just after 6:00pm for a light meal and then television before an early night in bed. The temperature was a lot cooler than Elliston.
During the evening the cloud occasionally departed allowing the moon to light-up Boston Bay (which is adjacent to the caravan park) with lovely reflections made more fascinating with the ripples from the wind. Needless to say, cameras were out to capture this. Unfortunately this did not continue for long with rain showers occurring frequently during the night. Fortunately the wind did subside.
