1 November 2016 – Junee to Jugiong NSW

We arose to a clear and sunny day.

After departing from Junee, we stopped for morning tea at a small bakery in the township of Cootamundra.  The bakery was excellent and very busy and we all enjoyed coffee and some special treats.

Cootamundra is a very quiet and somewhat sleepy rural town that has a high population of retirees.  We were told by one of the locals what Cootamundra is “God’s waiting room”.

After leaving Cootamundra, we decided to take a different route that saw us driving through rich and lush rural landscape.  Part of the trip was completed on a good gravel road.  Eventually we reached the main road from Harden to Jugiong and soon after arrived at Jugiong.

The showground was busy with more than 25 rigs camped on the vast site.  The showground shows the benefit of the recent rain with the grass long and very thick.

During the afternoon, we watched the Melbourne Cup (“He” setup our satellite dish) and we had our first boules game of the tagalong in the long grass.

A fire was lit for the evening and contained in a home-made fireplace.  Later we would see that all the heat generated was radiated up from the fire place as there was no evidence on the ground that a fire had ever been lit.

“He” flew the quad copter several times and climbed the quad to the highest (legal) flight level that he had ever done.  Late we would see the wonderful pictures that were taken.  The view from 400 feet above the ground is spectacular.

One of the group cooked his “signature” curried sausages for our last night together.

We sat in front of the fire and talked late into the night waiting for the fire to go out.  Once the fire subsided, we all headed into our vans for a comfortable night’s sleep.
