25 October 2016 – Jerilderie to Griffith NSW

With not a great distance to travel, we had a leisurely start to our day and were ready to depart just after 9:00am.

Leaving in convoy, we started our trip towards Griffith.  We travelled through countryside that was showing the effects of the recent rain with water everywhere we could see.  The roads also showed the effects of the rain and one can imagine it will take a long time to restore the roads to their original condition.

We stopped for morning tea at the Coolibah Café in Darlington Point and enjoyed fresh coffee.  The proprietor was a little overwhelmed with the number of people as another staff member was away from the café.

The river at Darlington Point was still high and we understood that this was one of the worst affected areas in the Riverina with many roads closed.

The trip from Darlington Point through to Griffith was quick and uneventful.

We were the last vehicle in our convoy but due to a navigation error by our leader, we arrived at the caravan park first.

The caravan park at Griffith was simply “nice”.  We were escorted to our site by the owner who also help us to position the caravan.  After we set up, it was into Griffith and a visit to a jewellery store and OPSM for a quick fix to glasses.  We also stopped at Lowes and “He” was able to purchase some shorts that he needed desperately.

We had happy hour close to one of the caravans and then joined with the others in the group for a BBQ evening meal.
