We started our day at 7:00pm and discovered that our quilt had partially moved off the bed onto the floor. We reasoned that a blanket placed on top of the quilt had pulled it off.
The outside temperature was close to 0 degrees, but the internal caravan temperature was just over 10 degrees. The caravan, which was built in Europe, is well insulated and perfect for the Australian winter.
After breakfast we travelled to the Canberra suburb of Pearce where we had arranged to visit a friend who we know from the old Winnebago Club. John had lost his wife (and our friend) just over 5 years ago and other than telephone contact, we had not seen John since the funeral. It was good to share morning tea and remember old times.
After leaving John we headed to the suburb of Kingston and the Old Depot Markets where we explored the wares and had our lunch.
Next stop was at the Australian War Memorial and their research centre. We have been looking for letters written during the Second World War from “His” mother to her husband who served on the HMAS Perth. Staff were not able to help but we will visit the National Archives tomorrow to see if they can shed some light.
We spent a little time looking at the aircraft exhibitions and “He” took pictures with his Lumix G9 to determine the capabilities of the camera prior to our trip later this year. “He” was also able to take some pictures of the Honour Roll that was well lit by the sun and without any people present in the gallery. We intend to return to the War Memorial tomorrow after visiting the National Archives.
Before returning to the caravan, we drove to the Mt Ainsley Lookout which afforded a good late afternoon view of Canberra and the haze that was closing in.
Returning to the caravan we enjoyed microwave meals before watching the final of “My Kitchen Rules” on television.
