As a direct result of our water issue, we had to cut short this trip. Initially we intended to return to Sydney today but then realised that today was the last day of the NSW School Holidays and the traffic returning into Sydney after holidays traditionally is very heavy. With that in mind, we decided to relocate closer to Sydney so we would only have a short run home on Monday morning. Blackheath was chosen as the overnight stop.
Saying farewell to our friends, we left Coonabarabran just after 9:00am. Before departing Coonabarabran, we refuelled but had to wait for several minutes while two other caravanners took their time in filling their vehicles, washing windows and then reorganising the back of their tow vehicles. Leaving Coonabarabran, we headed towards Gilgandra, then Dubbo before turning towards Dungog and Mudgee where we stopped for lunch.
We had intended to refuel at Mudgee but decided to continue on toward Blackheath.
Today we experienced at tail wind and that offset the consumption from the hilly terrain we experienced after leaving Mudgee.
As soon as we joined the Great Western Highway to the west of Lithgow, the traffic volume increased substantially and finally came to a crawl just before we arrived at Blackheath. Our decision not to drive all the way home was vindicated.
We were able to secure a spot in the caravan park where we could stay hooked up. We played “Sequence” for part of the afternoon and “She” was unbeatable.
