We set our alarm for 7:00am and with a planned departure of around 10am, we ensured that we had a relaxed start to the day.
We were packed up and ready to depart by 9:45am. We left our camp site just after that and had a pleasant drive to Dubbo. With only a little wind around, we experienced very good fuel consumption and travelling at around the 90kph mark probably helped the fuel consumption as well.
Based on a recommendation, we stopped at the café at the Western Plains Zoo for a late morning tea. We took the opportunity to collect our “Friends of the Zoo” membership passes that we had recently renewed.
We checked into the caravan park just after midday and “He” took a long time to do the setup as it was very warm outside.
This afternoon we visited a flour mill and had a guided tour that took a little over two hours. The mill, Ben Furney Flour Mills, is a family affair having existed for over 100 years and run by three generations of the family. The tour was fantastic, and we left with a better understand about the use of flour and also soy.
With weather threatening, we decided to have our evening meal at the Dubbo Bowling Club which is located almost adjacent to the park. We had been given vouchers for a drink and a $10 discount on our evening meal.
We had very heavy rain (later we would learn that only 1mm had fallen) while we were in the club and we witnessed several lightning strikes in the distance. Shortly after seeing one of these strikes, we saw smoke and reference to the “Fires Near Me” confirmed the fact.
We returned to our caravan just before 9:00am. We watched television until 11:00pm. It did not rain again but there was lightning to the east until late in the night.
