2 December 2020 – Berry to Sydney NSW

We had the caravan booked into Sydney RV to have a lithium battery fitted so we planned to leave Berry by 8:00am.

We started our preparations to leave at 6:00am when the alarm sounded. As is the case when departing from  these musters, our departure time is never achieved as we always take longer with our farewells than what we plan.  Today was no exception and our 8:00am departure was extended to just after 8:15am.

Not long after leaving Berry, we encountered some light rain that required the use of the wind screen wipers. The rain continued to just after we passed Kiama.

Whilst the traffic was not light, we made good time through to Albion Park Rail where the volume of traffic increased.  We had an uneventful climb up to the top of Mt Ousley where we took the Picton Road exit and travelled through to Wilton where we joined the Hume Motorway.  At Liverpool we took the M7, but our GPS detected slow moving traffic, so we exited the M7 and travelled on a parallel road through to the M4 at the Light Horse Interchange at Eastern Creek.  From there it did not take long to travel through to Emu Plains where our new battery was fitted.

It was here that we met Ken who was picking up a caravan identical to ours.  Ken asked a few questions and an hour later we were heading home.  It became apparent from the questions that Ken was asking that the delivery process performed by Sydney RV was inadequate.  As was the case with us when our caravan was delivered, Ken was not shown how to open the main door nor was he informed about the need to have towing mirrors and several other aspects of towing that he needed to know.  We told Ken about the speed we like to travel at on freeways, again an area of the law that he had no knowledge of.  Ken actually followed us from Emu Plains back to Homebush Bay Drive where he departed the tollway for his home at North Ryde. After returning the caravan to our driveway, we took our time and unpacked the car and caravan before deciding that the remainder of our unpacking could wait until tomorrow.
