28 November 2020 – Berry NSW

We did have a reasonable night’s sleep, but we knew we were going to wake to a very hot day with 39 degrees forecast for our location.  That would prove to be inaccurate as the temperature reached 41 degrees.

Whilst talking to a neighbour in the morning, a loud bang was heard followed by screams of “STOP”.  A caravan leaving the camp site was exiting left from the park at an intersection with a no left-hand turn.  The owner of the caravan had gone well to the right to miss a pole not realising that the turn on the caravan would result in a wide swing and that resulted in the caravan’s bumper attaching itself to a parked car.  The car was dragged into the caravan on the same site resulting in damage to the car and the caravan.  The wife of the owner of the exiting combination jumped out of the car and made an aggressive comment about parking a car on the corner.  It was only when it was explained to her that they had dragged the car about 4 meters that she retreated.  Later we would learn that this was the first caravan trip undertaken by the guilty party.

During the day “He” met with one of the most recently appointed members of the ACC Board.  The opportunity was also used to invite Ken and Angela to join our group for Christmas dinner.

We held our AGM in an open space and saw a new branch President elected and “She” took over the role of branch publicity officer.

Christmas Dinner was catered for by a local caterer who arrived shortly after 2:00pm on a very hot day and they provided the group with a spit roast, hot veggies, various salads and desserts.  Once again, we had the meal in an open shed where COVID restrictions were observed.

As has been the case in previous years, most of the group participated in what is now the annual Christmas Light Challenge.  One of the stronger competitors, Alan & Lesley were unable to attend and that left other front runners, Di & Dallas and Therese & Ron trying to outdo each other.  The competition was so fierce that the judges, John and Heino, had to resort to looking for faulty LED globes to decide the winner.  It is now history that both competitors had checked every LED globe prior to ensure they were working so the judges had no option than to declare joint winners.

With the overnight temperature probably in the low 30’s, we did manage to sleep through the night, that was until about 2:00am.
