17 August 2022 – Burren Junction to Moree NSW

It was a cold night, and the temperature was around 8 degrees when we opened the caravan door.  The wind reduced the temperature by several degrees.

We departed in two groups with the first group tasked with finding a location in Narrabri for morning tea. “He” suggested at McDonalds could be a solution and an hour after leaving Burren Junction, we found ourselves in McDonald enjoying morning tea.

The trip to Moree was relatively slow with an abundance of road works as well as the impact on the traffic from the construction of the inland rail link from Narrabri to Moree.

We saw one idiot risk our lives when he decided to pass several of our group on a passing lane.  The speed limit was 110kph and we were doing 100kph.  With a caravan on the back, he decided to pass and probably had to do 130kph to pass us.  He passed the vehicle in front of us well after the road merged and as he passed, we watched the caravan he was towing start to sway.  He did manage the overtake but was only two vehicles in front of us when we stopped at lights in Moree.

We had some issues with our caravan park booking and it took an hour for all of us to eventually find our allocated sites.

We shopped in the afternoon and brought back a cake for one of the members who was turning 66.  We celebrated the birthday at happy hour and returned to our caravan for our evening meal at 6:15pm.

We are using a new lithium battery to run our refrigerator and “He” was very surprised to see that the battery was still sitting at 59% capacity some 32 hours after the battery was taken off charge at Lightning Ridge.  This result is excellent, and it appears that we can run our refrigerator for around three days (in winter) from the battery pack.  It will be interesting to see howe this combination works in the summer.

For the first time since leaving home we had a “real” outside cooked meal that was very enjoyable.

We closed the caravan door just after 7:00pm to watch television before retiring to bed.  The temperature is cool and perfect for sleep.
