24 April 2022 – Eltham VIC

We slept well and set the alarm for 6:30am to allow time for showers and breakfast before our 9:30am departure to the Diamond Valley Railway (DVR).

We visited the DVR just before COVID changed everyone’s life and we had intended to join at that time.  Due to COVID, we didn’t.

Today we would spend another day as volunteers and then make the decision about joining.

On our arrival at DVR, we headed in different directions.  “She” was instructed on station duties involving the arrival of trains and “He” was shown the process of building a train and then testing before the train was released for public use.  “He” was also introduced to the signal box and the process of train control.  Later in the day, “She” provided the training, and “He” performed the duties associated with the arrival of a train.

After DVR closed, “He” was shown the process of running a prime mover and was offered the opportunity (which was declined) to shunt the engine.

At 5:45pm, we both completed the application forms to join the DVR.

With our friends and two other members, we had dinner at the Montmorency Elthsm RSL Club before returning to show our friends the caravan.

We slept well but “He” paid the price with cramps for neglecting to drink a lot of water during the day.
