1 November 2023 – Lake Hume NSW to Canberra ACT

As expected, the night was very quiet and with no moon early, we were able to leave a blind open and enjoy some starlight.  The ground was wet from dew when we exited the caravan, but it was very light.  We were presented with another mild day with wall-to-wall blue sky.

We had intended to leave at 8:30am but it was closer to 9:00am when we left the park.  The later departure was compounded with the need to obtain fuel and further compounded with traffic delays that held up our progress to join the Hume Freeway.

When we eventually joined the freeway, we were presented with another slight headwind and due to a desire to get to our destination early in the afternoon, we knew that fuel consumption today would be excessive.

Traffic was generally light, and we maintained a speed close to the speed limit.

We stopped at Gundagai (Olivers) for an early lunch, and “She” was very happy when bacon and egg rolls were on their menu.

Today we saw more roadkill than what we had seen on the trip to date.  We saw one lady dragging a kangaroo off the road that she had just hit.

We arrived at our destination in Canberra, the Alivio Tourist Park at O’Connor, around 1:00pm and due to the excellent sites in this park, it took no time to complete our setup.

Later in the afternoon we visited friends and stayed for an evening meal with them.

As we were leaving their car park, it was pointed out to us that one of our parking lights has failed.  A replacement can wait until we return home.

We were back at the caravan just before 10:00pm.  “He” watch football until late, “She” went straight to bed.
