10 October 2023 – Ararat VIC to Bordertown SA

We slept well.  The night was cold, but we were warm.  In fact, we were so warm that we stayed in bed for an extra 10 minutes after the alarm sounded.

With a little over 250 kilometres to travel, we were in no hurry to set away and as was the case yesterday, we departed around 9:30am.

The roads in Victoria are rough and for the second time since we left Sydney, the cable on our rear-view camera was shaken loose.  Unfortunately, this time the cable was destroyed.  We had an old spare cable that was used to replace the damaged cable.  This old cable was in the process of disintegrating, but we expected it would suffice until a replace was found.

We stopped in Horsham at a couple of automotive outlets but could not locate a replacement.  We did use the stop to have an early lunch at McDonalds that for once, was not all that bad.

With the road condition deteriorating, we had to make continual checks of cables and eventually the 12-pin cable connecting the car and the caravan came loose.  We stopped alongside a pink lake and reconnected the cable.  Steps were then taken to monitor the connections further but fortunately the condition of the road appeared to improve and improved further when we crossed the border into South Australia.

Overnight was at the Bordertown Caravan Park.  The park was small but is well looked after.  We were offered free laundry facilities for both washing and drying.

After completing the setup, we drove into the small town to look around before a visit to the bakery and then a service station where we paid $2.11cpl for fuel.  Later in the afternoon we shopped locally purchasing water and soft drinks.

“He” was able to contact Polaris in Sydney and arrange for a replacement cable to be sent to the caravan park where we will arrive on Friday.  Later in the afternoon, an email was received from Australia Post, and it looks like the cable will arrive in SA on Thursday.

We had a ham salad for our evening meal and with the air conditioning running, it was very pleasant inside the caravan.  Having connected to water and sullage, we had “on board” showers.

We did not have a late night and we are still managing the varying temperature range and sleeping well.
