23 October 2023 – Goolwa to Naracoorte SA

We awoke to a near perfect day with little wind and wall to wall blue sky.

We set the alarm for 6:30am with an 8:30am departure planned.  Having said goodbye to most of our friends yesterday, there were only a couple of people we had to see before leaving.

Our pack-up was slow and it was just after 9:00pm when we left the park.  We soon discovered that any wind present would assist our trip and following the directions given by our GPS, we soon found ourselves travelling over roads we have never seen before.  Our trip today had been calculated around the 361 klms mark and we expected to be on the road for about 5 hours.

About an hour into the trip, we rounded a corner only to see a queue of vehicles stopped in front of us.  We were at a town called Wellington and the vehicles were queued to cross the Murray River by ferry.  This was unexpected and later we would determine that the mapping software on our planning computer had “avoid ferries” enabled but the GPS in the car did not.  We waited about 30 minutes before we crossed the Murray River, but we reduced our trip by about 40 kilometres and more importantly, about $8 in diesel fuel.  With the delay in crossing the river, our travel time would be the same.

We stopped at the Keith Bakery for lunch before proceeding to Naracoorte where we were given a strange, shaped corner site that was very easy to park the caravan.

On the first day of this trip, we mentioned that one of the marker lights on the front right side of the caravan had failed.  We spoke to Sydney RV Centre at that time, and they were to advise us when the part became available.  We received the call last week and paid for the replacement part and its delivery.  That part arrived at our home today and as fate would have it, the light has now started working.  We now must assume that it will fail again so we have a replacement.

After completing most of the setup, we had a look around Naracoorte including a visit to Woolworths for the purchase of some groceries.

We met another ACC member when we returned to the camp site and had the other meals, we recently purchased for our evening meal.

With a weather forecast of high winds, “He” decided to lower the front stabilisers of the caravan.  This would prove to be a wise move.

We watched television until 11:15pm.

“She” has a cold that is getting worse.
