Since returning from our ACC Branch Christmas muster last November, the caravan has sat idle in our driveway. A week ago, it was great to remove the covers and ready the caravan for this trip. With the covers in place, the caravan was clean on the outside and our growing population of spiders and only found a few spots on the underside to populate. Even more of a surprise was that there was no need to adjust the tyre pressure.
With a drive of about 90 minutes and access to our camp site not available until 11:00am, we planned on a 9:30am departure. Just before our departure time, a neighbour across the road from us left her car so our departure from our driveway was made a lot easier than usual.
Other than bumping the mirror of a minivan (with our mirror) that decide to partially move into our lane when stopped at a set of lights, the trip north was uneventful and was undertaken at normal highway speed. We arrived at our destination on Lake Macquarie at Mannering Park at 11:00am.
Once on our campsite, setup was completed quickly, and we were soon enjoying the benefits of air conditioning in the caravan as it was hot.
After lunch we took a camera and had a walk along the foreshore of Lake Macquarie before returning for a rest and then happy hour at 4:00pm. There are 17 caravans in our group and the purpose of this event was to farewell one of our members who was planning to move to New Zealand.
We stayed at happy hour renewing acquaintances until 6:45pm at which time we decided on purchasing “fish and chips” locally.
By the time we finished dinner, we were both full and decided on an early night.
Opening windows and vents we were greeted with the smell of a fire burning somewhere and we decided on the alternative which was to program the air conditioning to run until 11:30pm.
We were in bed just after 10:00pm and as we were asleep, we can only assume that at 11:30pm the air conditioning stopped.
