We both woke up coughing around 3:00am which was followed by broken sleep until 6:00am when the alarm sounded.
We were in the car at 7:50am and heading for the Diamond Valley Railway at Eltham, about 31 kilometres from the caravan park.
Arriving at the railway just after 8:30am, we spent the day volunteering until we departed for the caravan park just after 5:30pm. During the day we met some friends from Sydney who we had invited to attend the railway. They were admitted as visitors of members, and we took them to the club rooms where they were able to watch the trains. We were also fortunate in being able to take them as passengers on a train ride.
To simply summarise the remainder of the day at the railway, “She” spent most of the day working on the station dealing with both departing and arriving trains. “He” setup a locomotive and undertook shunting to connect carriages and then a test run around the site. The test run was unsupervised, and he was told “not to hit anything”. The remainder of the public running was spent doing guard training. After the public running concluded, “He” took the train that had been setup in the morning to the carriage storage area to store the carriages and then returned the locomotive to its shed for storage. This task was undertaken with the signals active, so it was a test for what he had learnt during the day.
We had McDonalds for tea and then watch television.
