The alarm was set for 7:00am and much to our surprise, it was very wet when we ventured out of the door. We had not heard any rain overnight but the water on the ground indicated that a couple of millimetres had fallen.
Once again, with the knowledge that we could not gain access to our next site until 2:00pm, we took our time to have breakfast and pack to leave. After confirming that our trip to Melbourne would not be impacted by flood water about 40 kilometres from our location, we left at 9:30am.
Not long after leaving the caravan park, the cable on our rear-view camera on the caravan fell out. How it happened, we have no idea, but the cable was pulled along the road for a short time before we could stop and reconnect. Fortunately, we were quick enough to stop any major damage to the cable.
Our fuel consumptions back to the Hume Motorway was 12.4 litres per 100k’s but as soon as we entered the highway, the consumption started to climb as once again, we were driving into a headwind.
We stopped for lunch at the Wallan Service Centre and ordered toasties at McDonalds. We both ordered tomato on the toasty which we did not get. The coffee was ordinary and whilst we were offered a $10 voucher for compensation, we declined the offer knowing we will add this venue to our “do not visit” list.
We called the caravan park (Discovery Parks Melbourne – located at Braybrook which is northwest of the Melbourne CBD) where we were booked asking if we could arrive early. They agreed to our request.
We reached our destination at Braybrook at 1:15am and were given an extremely small “tent” site. There were other caravans and campers on adjacent sites. Due to the amount of mud on the site, we asked for and was given the adjacent site. We were able to level the caravan and our car must be parked in a parking spot on the road in front of the site.
After disconnecting the caravan, we visited two shopping centres for food and other items before returning to the site to complete our setup.
We confirmed lunch arrangements for tomorrow with our friends.
At Coles we purchased a small piece of roast pork for our evening meal, half of which we consumed with salad.
We watched television until 9:30pm when we prepared for bed.
