As is the case when we travel, we never sleep through an alarm the day we return home.
It was dry when we opened the door of the caravan and remained that way for our entire “pack-up” routine.
There was a cloud bank slowly moving towards us from the east, but it did not produce rain until we were well on our way home.
We had to help others connect vehicles to caravans as there was not a lot of space on the roads to reverse.
We took a lot of time saying our farewells and booked the same site for our Christmas muster in November.
We drove through several showers of rain on our return trip. At Ourimbah, we noticed a police car activate its lights as we passed. “He” was certain we had done nothing wrong, but the police car never followed us. What we did see was flashing lights behind us and no following vehicles. At the top of the climb, we saw another police car with flashing lights parked on the side of the highway together with a flatbed truck. We had friends ,travelling behind us and we called them to make sure there had not been an accident. We subsequently learnt that we were the last vehicle to pass the police vehicle which then closed the highway to a single lane and escorted the vehicles up the hill. Apparently, a car had rolled over the embankment and the road was being reduced to a single lane for the recovery process. Other than a couple of trucks we had passed, we didn’t see another vehicle until the Gosford onramp.
We decided to use the Pennant Hills tunnel and the M2 to return to Delhi Road and the remained of our trip through Hunters Hill. We experienced very heavy rain during this part of the trip.
“He” had no problems with reversing the caravan into the driveway.
As mentioned earlier, the did have some reservations in going on this muster due to the forecast rain that had caused flooding on the Central Coast. Other than Monday, most of the rainfall had been when we were inside during the day or overnight. We used an umbrella a couple of times, and our wet weather gear was not used.
Other than Sunday and Monday, we had less rainfall than at our home. Rainfall totals at Belmont are shown below.
Wed (arrival day) 52.4mm
Thursday 10.6mm
Friday 0.6mm
Saturday 1.2mm
Sunday 12.6mm
Monday 54.2mm
Tuesday (after we left) 19.2mm
