28 July 2024 – Warrandyte VIC

Our alarm sounded at 6:30am.  “He” had woken a couple of hours earlier with the continuous sound of the rain falling on the caravan.

We got out of bed immediately and had breakfast and prepared for our day at the Diamond Valley Railway (DVR).  The rain continued as we drove to the DVR, however, the Melbourne weather forecast was for the showers to ease in the morning but start again in the afternoon.

Due to the weather the volunteers at the DVR were few.  “He” did the inspection and startup of a locomotive and then, after collecting a carriage set, did a test lap followed by another.  During one of these laps, it rained but fortunately a heavy shower proof jacket had been replaced with a raincoat, so the only clothing exposed to the show was a baseball hat.

“She” spent most of the day working on the station scanning entry tickets.  “He” spent time on the station and also 1.5 hours as the station master at the Meadmore Junction Station.

At one time, we were the only volunteers working on the station.

After the early rain shower, it remained dry for the remainder of the running time of the railway.

After closure, “He” put a train and carriages away which included another complete lap of the railway.

We joined our friends and other members for dinner at the Montmorency Eltham RSL Club and after saying our goodbyes, we refuelled the car and returned to our campsite. The rain started again just as we left the fuel stop for our return trip.

We started our pack-up on our return and were in bed before 11:00pm.  It was still raining.
