30 July 2024 – Wodonga VIC to Canberra ACT

We slept well and there was no throwing off the doona.  The inside of the caravan was about 8 degrees when we got up and we quickly gained some heat with our small ceramic fan.

With the caravan still hitched and the outside temperature at -3 degrees, our pack-up to leave only required the storage of hoses and the lifting of the caravan support legs.

We departed the caravan park at 9:15am and paused briefly to attempt to add our destination into our Hema HX2 Navigator.  The HX2 had worked well until yesterday and we have the same issue today with not being able to add a specific address.  Our experience with this hardware has not been good and “He” prior to this trip, “He” decided to carry a backup device for this trip.

We refuelled at Wodonga with the fuel cost reasonable on today’s cost and soon afterwards we were heading north on the Hume Freeway.  For no apparent reason, fuel consumption was high.  We decided to stop at Tarcutta for morning tea only to find the intended café closed.

Moving on we decided to stop at Yass to refuel and purchase groceries from a supermarket.

Arriving in Yass we were amazed to find the cupboard over our dinette open.  This was a first and whilst “She” was certain the cupboard was closed, this is a mystery.  In the leg from Yass to Canberra, another cupboard opened and again, we do not know why. We later discovered that there is damage to our dinette table but no apparent damage to the contents of the cupboards.  We will need to find a solution to keep the cupboards closed.

It was during this leg that “She” commented “two states and one territory in a single day”.

Using a mobile phone, we navigated to our overnight stop at the Alivio Tourist Park where we were given a spot a long way from the amenities block.  Unfortunately, due to the specifics of the spot, we needed to unhitch the car.  That was not planned as one of the reasons saying here was to stay hitched.

We used our air fryer to reheat the pies we had purchased yesterday (we finished a chicken last night), watched some of the Olympic Games and headed to bed late in the night.  Once again, we used the aircon to heat the caravan and turned it off well before going to bed.
