26 September 2024 – Gunning to Adelong NSW

The rain never stopped overnight with the intensity varying from light to heavy.  The ground was soaked when we ventured out of the caravan door at 8:15am when the rain finally stopped.  We were wrong about the overnight temperature as it was warm and it looks like we should have brought a cotton blanket.  All is not lost and we will execute a “plan B” tonight.

“He” has some form of cold and has lost his voice.  That proved to be fun as we were allocated the role of “tail-end Charlie” which required the use of the radio.  “She” had to take over the communication role during the latter part of today’s drive.

Our water pump is playing up again and will not turn off.  We have to do that manually and we have informed Sydney RV of the problem to address when we have the caravan services just after we get home.

Today we left in two groups of three vehicles after one of the group had to return home due to an eye problem.  We do not know if they will rejoin the trip as he needs to see a specialist.

We previously mentioned, we were tail-end Charlie in the second group and we were happy to follow two other vehicles travelling at a very sedate speed which reflected in our fuel consumption.  We already knew that 80 – 90kph were good numbers and today proved that.

We stopped at Jugiong for morning tea in a packed Long Track Pantry Café.  We spent close to an hour there before heading back to the Hume Highway and our overnight destination of Adelong.  It rained for the latter part of the trip but we noticed clear blue sky starting to appear.

The Adelong Showground was a challenge for all of us to find level sites and persistence and our small caravan resulted in us finding what was probably to most level site.

We showered during the afternoon with the water pump righting itself.  The waste water extraction system that “He” built for this trip worked a dream with the shower draining of water better than ever.  We think we used less than 10 litres of water for two showers.

We had happy hour later in the afternoon.

We also found that the need to disconnect the power to the car for the solar panels to recharge.  Connected to the car the metre showed 12.4 volts but that jumped to 13.5 volts once we disconnected.  We will try the power tonight by using our television.

With the temperature heading towards zero overnight, we decided not to cook outside and enjoyed a chicken loaf with salad for our evening meal.

Tomorrow we plan to depart Adelong at 9:00am and head to Tumbarumba for a stop before driving to our next stop at Jingellic.  Tomorrow the trip is just over 100k’s.
