With the temperature forecast to reduce to zero overnight, we had a pleasant sleep only interrupted with “Him” coughing through the night. It was suggested that “He” should have a Covid test even though we have a good idea as to the source of the problem with three family members we live with all suffering a form of influenza over recent weeks and they were tested for everything.
We were up just before 7:00am and shared breakfast and the pack up quickly with an expected departure time of 9:00am. “He” emptied the toilet and then decided to move the caravan off the ramp. And that is when our problems started.
In his haste to prepare for departure, the car was driven forward with the rear stabilisers on the caravan still lowered. That resulted in a massive gouge in the ground and both stabilisers bent. We managed to raise one but the other would not move. With help from others in our group, the caravan was raised by jack and the problem stabiliser was removed. Next job will be the stabiliser being straightened. That should be the only fix required but there will have to be a plan “B” which will be a total replacement of both rear units.
We left for our next shop at Tumbarumba just after 9:30am and we enjoyed a very pleasant drive there. We stopped for coffee, “He” had the worst sausage roll ever and it was a homemade variety burnt on the bottom. We also refuelled and “He” was able to buy a Covid test kit.
Leaving Tumbarumba, we drove through some of the most magnificent scenery we have ever seen. Beautiful green hills, flowing creeks and pristine farming land.
We arrived at our next stop, Jingellic and were lucky to find one of the last camping spots in the area behind the hotel. The camping spot is located adjacent to the Murray River which is currently flowing. Victoria is on the other side of the river.
We had a quick and easy lunch before “He” headed out to take some pictures and “She” joined other members of our group for a walk.
“He” mucked around with the stabiliser to confirm that it will still be functional provided we can get the winding rod straightened. We will try Beechworth or Echuca and there is likely to be in either place an engineering company that can do the work.
We had booked our group for our evening meal at the Jingellic Hotel and that resulted in only a few of the group enjoying a late happy hour before heading into the hotel at 6:00pm. Being a special day for us, we decided to buy everyone a drink, was also a thank you for the help we received in the morning, and that purchase resulted in us being given a heap of tickets for their “joker draw”. The meals were nice, generous but a little expensive for a country pub but no one complained.
As predicted by “Him “, one of our tickets won the “Joker draw” but “She” failed to pick the joker which was worth $250.
We returned to the caravan to watch the remainder of the game between the Roosters and Storm. It is history now as the Storm won in a canter.
We were in bed early to benefit from the heat of the blankets. Tonight would be very quiet with the only sound being the flowing Murray River which is about 50 meters from where we are parked.
Fingers cross that the car start as we left the CB radio on until the glowing light in the car was mentioned to us just after 8:00pm.
