With our colds not getting any better, we spent most of the night coughing.
We were up at our usual 6:45am and were presented with our toilet not flushing. We had run out of water so “He” headed outside to refill the tank.
It was then we discussed the possibility of not going to Smoko and head straight to Beechworth where we would have access to doctors and chemists. We shared our thoughts with the group leader who said we should not be making any decision based on the other members of the group. We prepared for the normal departure with the group at 9:00am but “He” managed to contact the caravan park in Beechworth and we were able to book a site. It is not the site we will occupy later in the week but the next two days by ourselves might give us a chance to get over our current illness.
We left with the group occupying our “tail end Charlie” position but not long after leaving our group went left and we went right. We had a nice drive to Beechworth with little traffic to contend with and a continuation of the wonderful scenery we have experience this trip.
As we arrived in Beechworth we decided to call into a service station and ask for information about an engineering company capable of fixing our caravans corner support struts. We were given the name of Pennyweight Engineering that was located about one kilometers from where we had stopped. Five minutes later “He” walked into the business and met the owner, Brian. After a discussion with the parts “sight unseen”, Brian indicated he could probably straighten the struts and ask for us to return with both of them.
We headed to the caravan park and were placed on site 11. The park was packed and we were lucky to get a site. We were told that our site for the latter part of the week was being used today and tomorrow as part of several couples travelling together and wanted to be close to each other.
We did a quick setup and “He” removed the second strut off the caravan and headed back to the engineer and delivered both parts. Fingers crossed that they can fix the problem and return the struts tomorrow.
After returning to the caravan park, we were asked if we would like to move to the spot we will occupy from Wednesday. Having plans to return to the Beechworth shop, we declined. We did return to a chemist in Beechworth and purchased some tables that should help cure our illness. We also asked about a Chinese Restaurant across from the chemist only to be told it is closed on Mondays. One of the local hotels was mentioned as a good venue for a group meal.
We returned to our campsite after getting afternoon tea from the Beechworth Bakery and watched television until 5:30pm when we returned to Beechworth to purchase fish for tea. As we were returning to the camp site, we received a call telling us that the struts had been fixed and if we wanted to go there now (6:00pm), they were still open. We collected the struts and they looked fine. We were happy with the fee that was charged.
We also enjoyed our fish even though the delay in eating it had resulted in the fish getting a little cold.
“He” had a bad evening with his cough and sometimes, breathing. “He” also had an upset caused by intensive coughing. We watched television before heading to bed hoping that we will be able to sleep. That would not be the case until early the next day when we both got several uninterrupted hours.
