5 October 2024 – Beechworth to Echuca VIC

We didn’t have a good night’s sleep, and “She” had to get out of bed about 4:30pm and sit up to try to sleep due to coughing.

The alarm sounded at 6:45am and we were quick to rise knowing that our expected departure time was 9:00am and we had a full pack-up to complete with the car and caravan needing to be hitched and all water hoses needed to be stowed.

Due to the narrow roads in the caravan park and the fact we were in the middle of the row, we were the last to hitch-up and the second last to leave the camping site.

Our group departed Beechworth just before 9:15am and headed towards Wangaratta where we joined the Hume Motorway heading south.  We saw a sign saying that Melbourne was 220klm down the road and we passed comment over the UHF how easy it would be to go to the Diamond Valley Railway, but the lack of safety footwear would stop us.

We left the highway heading towards Benalla and then turned towards Shepparton.  Passing through Shepparton, we all parked at Mooroopna and found a coffee shop for morning tea.

We left the tagalong and headed to Echuca to see if there was any space at the caravan park we were booked into.  They were fully booked. The remainder of our group were camping in Rotary Park for two nights, we were staying for three nights, hence staying in the caravan park.

Our set-up didn’t take long and after lunch we went looking for a couple of Yeti brand drink bottles that we eventually found in BCF.

Later in the afternoon we drove to Rotary Park and joined the other members of our group for happy hour and another damper.  Entering the park, we found a miniature railway with a seven & one quarter inch gauge and a five-inch gauge.  The track looked to be disused, but we found out later that the railway operates once a month, and tomorrow is the day in October.

During happy hour we enjoyed another damper cooked on the coals from the fire that had been lit.

We returned to our caravan around 5:30pm and had the left-over chicken with a sauce for our evening meal.

We had an average level of television reception, so we used Google Chromecast to watch the news and then a movie.

It was not supposed to rain but we had a very heavy shower early in the evening and several light showers later in the evening.

We set our clocks forward one hour late in the evening knowing very well we were about to lose an hour of sleep.
